Sony is rumored to release a successor to its newest Xperia 1 VI top Android smartphone

Sony's Next Xperia Pro C: Rumored Specs Suggest a Powerful Compact Smartphone

Sony is rumored to be releasing a successor to its Xperia 1 VI flagship Android smartphone, potentially featuring an improved main rear camera and a smaller footprint. This rumored successor, possibly called the Xperia Pro C, might include a larger battery with faster charging, a high-end chipset, and an anti-glare display.

Sony's upcoming Xperia-series smartphone is expected to be compact, but based on its rumored specifications, it's unlikely to be the direct successor to the Xperia 1 VI. For starters, the screen is said to have a 6.0-inch diagonal, compared to the usual 6.1-inch size found in Sony's flagship lineup.

The screen is also reported to offer a higher 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, and it's expected to be an OLED panel "with anti-reflection coating". This display is rumored to be powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC found in the Xperia 1 VI.

Unlike the Xperia 1 VI, the new phone is said to feature a 1-inch camera sensor with a 50MP resolution. It might include OIS and support for up to 14-bit RAW captures, and it's rumored to be from OmniVision.

Its other two 12MP rear cameras may enable additional Sony-like features, such as S-Cinetone for up to 4K/120fps video, 10-bit images, and some of the Xperia 1 VI's enhanced zoom capabilities. This could explain why the smartphone is expected to be released as the Xperia Pro C, a somewhat surprisingly modest successor to the Pro-I.

Despite its compact size, the phone is rumored to include a 5,000mAh battery and unusually fast (for Sony) 45W charging. However, this combination of features in a small form factor might result in a hefty price tag, especially considering the Pro-I continues to sell for $898 on Amazon over three years after its launch.
