Apple Rumored to be Working on Standalone AR Glasses
While rumors swirl about the cancellation of the Vision Pro 2 headset, new information has surfaced regarding Apple's plans to develop lightweight and compact AR glasses. Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, known for his accurate Apple insights, shared this development in his recent report, even hinting at a potential release timeframe.
Citing sources within Apple, Gurman claims that the AR glasses are in their early stages of development. Apparently, the company doesn't anticipate their release for "at least a few years." It's believed that the glasses will offer a subset of smartphone features, but will lack some of the capabilities found in mixed reality headsets.
A good example of this type of device is the XREAL Air 2 Ultra. These glasses can play spatial video and connect with PCs and smartphones. However, they can't create immersive virtual worlds like the Apple Vision Pro. The specific functions and features of Apple's AR glasses remain unknown.
Similar rumors emerged in 2019, suggesting that the company aimed to launch AR glasses in 2023. However, the Vision Pro headset materialized instead. Now, whispers about the AR glasses project resurfaced. As expected, Apple has not issued any official statements on this matter.
