Bugatti Unveils Its First Hybrid Hypercar: The Tourbillon
French automaker Bugatti has unveiled the Bugatti Tourbillon, the successor to the legendary Chiron. This is the company's first hybrid hypercar, boasting a staggering 1,800 horsepower and a top speed of nearly 450 km/h (280 mph). And in a bold move against modern trends, the Tourbillon features a completely mechanical dashboard.
Powering this beast is a combination of an 8.3-liter, naturally aspirated V16 engine generating 986 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque (capable of revving up to 9,000 rpm), and three electric motors (789 hp combined): one integrated into the robotic gearbox and one on each front wheel.
Performance Beyond Imagination
The Tourbillon's performance figures are nothing short of astonishing:
- 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph): 2 seconds
- 0-200 km/h (0-124 mph): 5 seconds
- 0-300 km/h (0-186 mph): 10 seconds
- 0-400 km/h (0-249 mph): 25 seconds
The car's top speed is electronically limited to 445 km/h (277 mph).
A 25 kWh battery pack powers the electric motors, providing a range of 60 km (37 miles) on electric power alone. Charging the battery from 0% to 80% takes approximately 12 minutes using an 800V charging station.
A Mechanical Marvel in a Digital Age
While other automakers are embracing full digitalization, Bugatti has equipped the Tourbillon with a completely mechanical dashboard, a feature that's both surprising and refreshing. Crafted by Swiss watchmakers, the intricate dashboard is mounted on the steering column but remains stationary while the wheel turns. That said, the car isn't completely devoid of screens - a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay is discreetly integrated into the dashboard.
Exclusivity and Availability
The Bugatti Tourbillon will have a limited production run of 250 units, with a starting price of 3.6 million euros. Production is scheduled to begin in 2026.
