Galaxy S25 Could Ditch Exynos for MediaTek Chip (Report)

Is Samsung switching teams? Rumors suggest the Galaxy S25 might feature a MediaTek processor due to high Snapdragon prices and Exynos production woes.

Insider: Galaxy S25 Might Feature a MediaTek Processor

According to the Korean portal Fnnews, Samsung might deviate from its usual "dual" release strategy for its flagship smartphones this year, which typically includes models with both Exynos and Snapdragon chips. The source claims that a third variant, equipped with a MediaTek processor, could also hit the market.

If the insider information proves accurate, the Galaxy S25 series devices will be available in certain regions with the Dimensity 9400 chipset. The reasons behind this decision are said to be the high price of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and production issues with Samsung's own Exynos 2500.

Rumors suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 costs between $190 and $200, while its successor could set the brand back a hefty $260. Adding to this, reports indicate that the yield rate of "problem-free" Exynos 2500 processors currently sits at 40%, falling short of the projected 60%. This discrepancy is hindering the mass production of Samsung's in-house SoC. However, insiders believe Samsung aims to resolve this issue by August of this year.

If production continues to face setbacks and Qualcomm's processor pricing remains high, the vendor might turn to MediaTek solutions for its flagship lineup. The official specifications for the Galaxy S25 series smartphones are yet to be announced.
