Honor Magic V Flip: Dazzling Display, But a Blast from the Past?
Honor's back in the foldable game, and this time, they're flipping the script (literally!) with the new Magic V Flip. This clamshell foldable is bringing some serious heat with a stunning 3,000 nit AMOLED display that's brighter than your future. But there's a twist: it's powered by Qualcomm's older Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, which might have you scratching your head considering the price tag.
Honor's no stranger to foldables, but it seems like they're taking a page from the retro playbook with this one. The Magic V Flip is their first clamshell foldable, and while it's packing a killer display, the processor feels a little too "last season." It's like wearing a designer outfit with last year's shoes – you're turning heads, but something feels a bit off.
Don't get us wrong, the Magic V Flip still has a lot going for it. We're talking a gorgeous 6.8-inch foldable AMOLED display with a buttery-smooth 120Hz refresh rate, a whopping 4,800 mAh battery, and a 50MP triple camera system that's ready to capture every detail.
But with a starting price of CNY 4,999 (that's about $689), the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 feels a bit dated. It's the same chip found in the nearly two-year-old Galaxy Z Flip4, which you can now snag for a steal.
So, is the Honor Magic V Flip worth it? If you absolutely need a foldable with a display brighter than the sun, it might tempt you. But if you're looking for the absolute latest and greatest tech, you might want to wait and see what else Honor (or its competitors) have up their sleeves.
