Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Secretly a Gaming Beast?
Hold up, is that a Windows game running on a Samsung phone? You better believe it! The Galaxy S24 Ultra might just be the ultimate sleeper gaming device.
Tech wizard ETA Prime over on YouTube has been up to his usual tricks, and this time, he's got the S24 Ultra running PC games like a champ. His secret weapon? An emulator called Winlator.
While Winlator doesn't officially support the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (yet!), some clever folks have cooked up modified versions that do the trick. And the results? Let's just say they're impressive.
Think you've seen it all? Think again. ETA Prime managed to get classics like Fallout 4, Far Cry, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, and Bioshock Remastered up and running on the phone. Even Cuphead runs at a buttery-smooth 60 FPS.
But how does it actually feel to game on a phone? Pretty darn good, actually. ETA Prime used Samsung DeX, which beams a desktop-like interface to an external display, making for a truly PC-like experience.
A few caveats:
- The modified Winlator is currently in Chinese (hopefully an English version is on the way!).
- Steam isn't working just yet, so you'll need GoG or DRM-free games.
The Bottom Line: Even in its early stages, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is showing some serious gaming chops. With a bit of optimization, who knows what this phone will be capable of? The future of mobile gaming is looking very, very bright.
