The actors' strike appears to have lost its bite. It won't affect GTA VI or live-service games.
The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has issued a significant clarification to their statement following the high-profile launch of their strike against the video game industry. As it turns out, the promised boycott will not extend to all games.
Initially, SAG-AFTRA representatives announced that striking actors would cease all services and work. However, this has been clarified. In response to an inquiry from Kotaku, the organization clarified that the strike will not apply to projects that have been in development for more than one year. Actors will only refuse to work on titles that began production after August 23, 2023. Furthermore, live-service games that require frequent updates will not be subject to the boycott.
Therefore, the alarming rumors about a potential delay of GTA VI are unfounded. The same goes for upcoming releases that have been in development for several years. Moreover, the chosen production window is very convenient: games in development for less than a year usually don't require voice acting anyway. Thus, the situation can be resolved without any harm to the release of video games.
