Apple Watch Ultra Saves Man From Drowning
An Apple Watch Ultra user, Rick Sherman, found himself in a terrifying situation when he was swept out to sea in Australia's Byron Bay. Luckily, he was able to use the emergency SOS feature on his watch to call for help.
Sherman was bodysurfing at the beach when the waves became increasingly rough. He was repeatedly pummeled by the waves, leading to cramping. After struggling for 20 minutes, he realized he couldn't make it back to shore on his own.
Using his Apple Watch Ultra's cellular connection, Sherman contacted Australian emergency services. He remained in contact with them for an hour until rescuers arrived.
Rescue personnel noted that the watch's capabilities have caused them to rethink their approach to search and rescue operations. They explained that under normal circumstances, finding someone lost at sea could take hours or even days. The Apple Watch Ultra, capable of functioning at depths of up to 100 meters, proved invaluable in this rescue.
