The First Real-World Tests of the ZenBook S16 with AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 are in!
The ever-popular YouTuber Dave2D has released his review of the new 2024 ASUS ZenBook S16. But the real star of the show isn't the laptop itself, but the brand-new AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor powering it. Dave2D put the chip through its paces, testing everything from gaming performance to battery life.
Here are some of the highlights:
- Impressively Thin and Light: Considering the performance on offer, Dave2D was blown away by how thin and light the ZenBook S16 actually is. He also praised its build quality and the stunning visuals produced by its 16-inch OLED display.
- Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Performance:
- In Cinebench's multi-core benchmark, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370-powered ZenBook S16 scored an impressive 998 points, compared to 872 points for the Ryzen AI 9 HX 365. This puts the top-tier model on par with the Snapdragon X Elite.
- Cool Under Pressure:
- Even with a power consumption of 27W, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 runs noticeably cooler than its rivals, reaching a maximum temperature of 80 degrees Celsius. This compares favorably to the Intel Core Ultra 7 (99 degrees Celsius) and the Snapdragon X Elite (95 degrees Celsius). The keyboard area remained relatively cool at around 46 degrees Celsius.
- Gaming Prowess:
- The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 delivers an average of 47 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1200p resolution and low settings. This outpaces laptops with Intel's integrated graphics, which achieve around 39 fps.
- Rendering Powerhouse:
- The new Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 significantly outperforms the Ryzen 8945HS in video rendering, completing tasks about a minute and a half faster.
- Battery Life:
- Under load, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370-equipped ZenBook S16 lasted about as long as a comparable ASUS laptop with a Snapdragon X Elite chip - 4 hours and 11 minutes versus 4 hours and 12 minutes. However, in video playback, the Snapdragon X Elite variant pulled ahead with a time of 7 hours and 47 minutes compared to 7 hours and 17 minutes.
Overall, the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 appears to be a powerful and efficient processor that could shake things up in the laptop market.
