Fans love to remake old games with modern engines, but a group of Fallout fans took things in a different direction - they're recreating an old game on an even older engine. We're talking about a remake of Fallout: Van Buren, but using the engine of the original Fallout games.

This project, aptly titled Fallout: Yesterday, just released its 0.6 version to the public. Led by a modder known as PJ, the team has resurrected Fallout 3 in a form resembling what might have been possible back in 1999. While you can already complete the main storyline, be prepared to rely heavily on your Repair and Science skills.

The design of Fallout: Yesterday draws heavily from the leaked design documents of the canceled Fallout: Van Buren. Interestingly, Obsidian Entertainment followed a similar approach: many of the ideas originally intended for Fallout 3 were resurrected and implemented in Fallout: New Vegas, though in a significantly different form.
