Gigabyte Unveils Insane 24TB RAM Motherboard at Computex

Forget 32GB, Gigabyte's latest server motherboard pushes the limits with support for an insane 24 terabytes of RAM. See it here!

A Motherboard for 24TB of RAM? Gigabyte Showed It, But Nobody Noticed!

The tech world is abuzz with the latest from Computex 2024, but a fascinating reveal from Gigabyte almost slipped under the radar. Tucked away at the event was a motherboard unlike any other, sporting a mind-blowing 48 RAM slots! Yes, you read that right – a potential 24TB of RAM, as spotted and detailed by the eagle-eyed journalists at Techspot.

Motherboard

This beast of a motherboard, the Gigabyte R283-ZK0, was showcased as part of a 2U server platform. It boasts:

  • Two SP5 sockets: Ready to accommodate AMD EPYC 9004 series processors, each packing up to 128 cores and 256 threads.
  • 48 RDIMM DDR5 slots: That's 24 slots per CPU, allowing for a theoretical maximum of 24TB of RAM.

But that's not all! This connectivity king also features:

  • Dual Gigabit LAN ports
  • Dual M.2 PCIe Gen3 x4 and x2 slots
  • Four SATA/SAS-4 connectors
  • Four FHHL slots (PCIe Gen5 x16)
  • Two OCP 3.0 Gen5 x16 slots for network cards
  • Eight hot-swappable 2.5-inch drive bays
48 RAM

Of course, all this power comes at a cost – literally. While Gigabyte hasn't released an official price, it's safe to assume it's astronomically high. Consider that a single 128-core AMD Epyc 9004 CPU retails for around $10,000, and a 256GB (2x 128GB) kit of RDIMM DDR5 memory can set you back over $6,000!

So, while this motherboard may not be for the average user (or even the average data center, for that matter), it's an exciting glimpse into the future of high-performance computing.
