iFixit Gives HMD Skyline a Near-Perfect Repairability Score
HMD boasted about the high repairability of its recently released Skyline smartphone, and the experts at iFixit have put those claims to the test. The verdict? The Skyline lives up to the hype.
Disassembling the HMD Skyline proved to be quite straightforward. Removing the back cover only requires loosening a single screw on the bottom edge, which lifts up a corner of the panel. While a small amount of adhesive is used around the edges for water resistance, it doesn't hinder the repair process.
The display was equally easy to remove, requiring only a few screws to be undone and the display cable to be detached from the motherboard.
According to the iFixit engineers, the speakers, USB Type-C port, microSD and SIM card slots, and all four camera sensors can be easily replaced. The battery can also be removed without much hassle by simply pulling on a plastic tab.
As a result of their teardown, the experts awarded the HMD Skyline an impressive repairability score of 9 out of 10. Better yet, the manufacturer has confirmed that original spare parts will be available soon through the iFixit online store.
