Intel 800-Series Chipset Specs Leaked Ahead of Launch
Get ready to pay a premium for overclocking, Intel fans! Leaked information suggests that Intel's upcoming 800-series chipsets will bring significant changes, including limited overclocking support and a hefty price tag for enthusiasts.
The leak, courtesy of insider Jaykihn, reveals details about the capabilities of Intel's new logic chipsets for their upcoming processors. According to the report, CPU overclocking will only be possible on the flagship Intel Z890 platform. Memory overclocking, however, will be supported on motherboards equipped with the B860 chipset. Interestingly, the enterprise-grade W880 chipset will stand out with its support for DDR5 modules with Error Correction Code (ECC) functionality – a feature absent in other next-generation motherboards.
One of the most notable upgrades in the new chipsets compared to their predecessors is the increased number of chipset PCI-Express lanes – up to 48 on the top-tier Z890 and W880. Additionally, the B860 chipset will support PCIe 5.0 x16 and x4 interfaces, allowing for configurations with the latest graphics cards and SSDs on relatively affordable motherboards.
The first consumer motherboards based on the new Intel chipsets are expected to be released by the end of this year.
