Apple iPhone 16 Pro Rumored to Get Long-Awaited Fast Charging Boost
The Apple iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are rumored to receive a significant fast charging upgrade, addressing a long-standing weakness compared to competitors.
Rumors are swirling that the iPhone 16 Pro models will offer:
- Faster wired charging: Up to 40 watts via USB-C, a considerable jump from the iPhone 15 Pro's 27 watts.
- Improved wireless charging: Up to 20 watts with MagSafe, compared to the current 15 watts. New MagSafe chargers may be required.
These upgrades are driven by a combination of factors, including:
- Higher capacity batteries: Rumors suggest the iPhone 16 Pro models will boast batteries with greater energy density and capacity.
- Metal casing: A stainless steel casing is expected, which could improve heat dissipation during fast charging.
This upgrade is long overdue, as iPhones have lagged behind competitors in charging speeds. For example, the Realme GT6 with its 5,800 mAh battery can charge from 0% to 50% in just 12 minutes. In contrast, the iPhone 15 Pro with its smaller 3,274 mAh battery takes nearly 30 minutes for a 50% charge and almost two hours for a full charge. Wireless charging is even slower, taking over 2 hours due to throttling to limit heat build-up.
If true, these upgrades will be a welcome addition for iPhone 16 Pro users, bringing Apple closer to the fast charging standards set by its competitors.
