iPhone 17 Rumored to "Borrow" Camera Feature From Android Flagships
Rumors have been swirling about upcoming iPhone camera upgrades, and now we have even more details. It appears Apple is set to introduce a technology that Android users have enjoyed for years.
iPhone 17 with Adjustable Aperture?
According to The Information, Apple plans to equip the iPhone 17 series with cameras featuring adjustable aperture. This technology was first seen in the Samsung Galaxy S9 back in 2018 and is currently available in flagship phones from Chinese brands like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Honor Magic6 Pro. Adjustable aperture allows for greater control over the amount of light captured by the sensor, which in turn impacts depth of field and background blur. It's likely that this feature will be limited to the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, or possibly even just the Max version.
Samsung Sensors Coming to iPhone 18?
In other news, renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Sony will no longer be the sole supplier of camera sensors for iPhones. Kuo states that Apple has placed an order with Samsung for 1/2.6-inch, 48-megapixel CMOS sensors destined for the ultrawide cameras. With deliveries planned for 2026, it seems these sensors are intended for the iPhone 18 series. This information aligns with Kuo's earlier prediction that all rear cameras on iPhones will feature 48MP resolution by 2025.
