New iPhone 2025 Rumors: What We Know About the iPhone 17

Apple is rumored to be making big changes to the iPhone lineup in 2025. Here’s what we know so far about the iPhone 17.

Will the new iPhone be Ultra, Slim, or Air?

Rumors about Apple expanding the iPhone lineup in 2025 have been swirling for months, but the information is conflicting. Some sources claim a new ultra-premium model will lead the series, while others only hint at a design change. Here's everything we know so far:

What insiders are saying:

  • The "Slim" theory: In May, analyst Jeff Pu reported that Apple plans to replace the Plus model with a new "Slim" iPhone. This 6.6-inch device would boast the thinnest iPhone body ever. The Information later corroborated this, adding that the smartphone would feature an A19 Pro chip and a new horizontal camera layout. This model is expected to be the most expensive in the iPhone lineup.
  • The logic: Apple has already set a trend for ultra-thin devices with the iPad Pro (5.1mm thick) and iPad Air (6.1mm). In June, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reported that Cupertino would continue this trend, slimming down the MacBook Pro, Apple Watch, and iPhone.
  • The plot twist: In mid-July, leaker Ice Universe shared a specs table for all upcoming iPhone models. Surprisingly, the 6.65-inch iPhone 17 Slim appeared with a "budget" A19 processor, 8GB RAM (similar to the base iPhone 17), and an aluminum body. While a new design is still mentioned, these specs don't scream "premium." Despite this, the model is rumored to be $100 more expensive than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Confusion reigns:

  • Last year, rumors circulated about a titanium iPhone 15 Ultra replacing the Pro Max, but Apple ultimately retained the branding. It seems there won't be an "Ultra" in the 2024 generation either.
  • The iPhone 17 Slim seemed like a potential candidate for the "Ultra" title, especially since Apple applies the "Ultra" branding to its top-tier products. However, the "Slim" moniker seems questionable if Cupertino plans to slim down all its devices. Moreover, the ultra-thin iPad Pro retained its original name.
  • Ice Universe's leak creates more questions than answers. Why would anyone buy a phone with inferior specs and materials compared to the Pro and Pro Max, but at a higher price? And calling it an "Ultra" doesn't make sense in this context.

Waiting for clarity:

It's possible that some rumors are false. Perhaps the upcoming model will still feature a top-of-the-line chipset and a titanium frame. Or maybe it will be more affordable. However, the latter seems illogical, forcing consumers to choose between top-tier specs and the latest design.

For now, it's best to wait for concrete information before jumping to conclusions.
