Insider: Ubisoft Has Been Working on Rainbow Six: Siege 2 for Over Four Years
Gamer and leaker "Dilial" claims that the second installment of Ubisoft's tactical shooter, Rainbow Six: Siege 2, is nearing release. The insider is confident that Ubisoft has almost completed development and has been actively working on the project since shifting the original game's developers to the sequel.
Siege 2: New Engine, New Anti-Cheat, New Delays?
Rainbow Six: Siege 2 is reportedly built on Ubisoft's Snowdrop engine, the same engine powering The Division, Avatar, and XDefiant. The switch from the original game's engine was motivated by technical challenges and a desire to implement a robust new anti-cheat system.
While the sequel was initially intended for a grand reveal at the Six Invitational 2024 in Brazil, plans seem to have changed. Dilial speculates that unforeseen development hurdles have pushed the announcement back to the Six Invitational 2025 in Boston. If true, this would mean the French developers have been quietly working on the successor to their once-dominant shooter for over four years.
Adding further fuel to the rumor mill, Dilial suggests that the Six Invitational 2025 will be the final event for the original Rainbow Six Siege, with Ubisoft shifting all focus to the sequel. According to the insider, nearly 90% of the development team is now dedicated to Rainbow Six: Siege 2.
