Resident Evil 7 on iOS Disappoints with Low Sales

Despite high expectations, Resident Evil 7 on iOS fails to impress gamers, selling only 2000 copies. Is Apple's gaming push falling flat?

Resident Evil 7 on iOS: A Lukewarm Reception

It seems Cupertino's tech giant might need to reassess its gaming market strategy. The highly anticipated port of Resident Evil 7 for iPhone failed to generate significant excitement among gamers. As a result, only around 2000 copies of the iOS and iPadOS version of the horror title have been purchased.

Resident Evil 7 on iOS

Resident Evil 7 was released on Apple's mobile platforms on July 2nd. According to Appmagic, the game generated approximately $28,140 for Capcom, excluding the 30% commission charged by the App Store. While the game saw 83,000 downloads, with a price tag of $20 to unlock the full version, it seems only 2000 players decided to take the plunge.

Showcasing Potential, Facing Challenges

The port of Resident Evil 7 was intended to showcase the gaming potential of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, as well as iPads equipped with M1 chips and above. From a technical standpoint, Apple succeeded. They demonstrated that mobile devices are capable of running demanding games. However, the company still has work to do in terms of building a reputation within the gaming community.

If Apple is serious about popularizing AAA games on mobile platforms, there are several issues they need to address. One major hurdle is the demanding storage requirements. Resident Evil 7 weighs in at a hefty 25GB, and the system requires twice that amount of free space before installation. This presents a significant barrier for users, particularly on devices with limited storage capacity.
