The Witcher 4 Developers are Making Deep Changes to Unreal Engine 5
While we still have a long wait ahead of us for the next game from CD Projekt RED, the developers are making sure we don't forget about them with regular updates. This time, the company has revealed that they're working on a deeply integrated level with Unreal Engine 5.
This news comes from Paweł Sasko, who casually mentioned it during an interview with Flow Games. According to Sasko, CD Projekt RED is collaborating closely with Epic Games to refine Unreal Engine 5. He emphasized that while the engine is impressive on its own, certain aspects require tailoring to meet the studio's specific needs. These modifications are "structural" in nature, implying significant changes rather than minor cosmetic tweaks.
Understandably, Sasko refrained from divulging further details, likely bound by PR constraints. Nonetheless, even this limited information should excite fans. Many were concerned when CD Projekt RED announced their departure from their proprietary engine. This move, however, is a necessary concession to globalization, as finding developers familiar with Unreal Engine is far easier than those experienced with the RED Engine.
