An Elden Ring and Dark Souls Fan is Suing the Developers Over Difficulty
FromSoftware has never made a secret of the fact that their games are not for everyone, and difficulty is a key element of their game design. Despite this, they made some concessions in Elden Ring, making it more accessible. But even that wasn't enough to stop one fan from taking the developers to court.
A gamer from Massachusetts filed a lawsuit against FromSoftware, with a hearing scheduled for September. On the 4chan forum, he explained that his dissatisfaction stemmed from the difficulty of the studio's games. He believes that the developers intentionally hide some content behind difficult bosses, preventing many players from accessing everything in the game they paid for.
However, the gamer then delved into conspiracy theories, also accusing FromSoftware of adding a "game within a game." He claims that all the cut content found in concept art or other drafts is actually present in the Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring games, but it's hidden so well that it also deprives gamers of access to the content they purchased. Other forum users pointed out that dataminers would have discovered such hidden content long ago, but the determined gamer dismissed their arguments.
FromSoftware developers are known for hiding additional content in obscure places, but this usually applies to DLC purchased separately, with access often hidden behind an inconspicuous quest or a random item. Moreover, the Elden Ring DLC is comparable in scale to half of the original game.
