AI-Powered PCs Gaining Ground: Market Share Surges
According to a new report from Canalys, the market share for AI-equipped PCs has seen a significant jump in the first half of 2024.
The analytics firm reports that by the end of Q2, 8.8 million PCs featuring processors with dedicated Neural Processing Units (NPUs) for AI tasks were shipped. This category encompasses all current Apple computers, models powered by Intel Meteor Lake and Ryzen 7040/8040 chips, as well as the latest Snapdragon X-based laptops. These AI-enabled PCs now represent 14% of the total market share, a notable increase from 7% in the first quarter.
In the Windows segment, Lenovo emerged as a leading provider with its Yoga Slim 7x and ThinkPad T14s laptops. HP secured a spot in the top three with its Omnibook X 14 and EliteBook Ultra G1 models, alongside Dell's latest offerings in the XPS, Latitude, and Inspiron lines.
Looking ahead, Canalys projects that shipments of AI-powered PCs will reach 44 million units by the end of the year, with a further surge to 103 million units expected in 2025.
