Analysts: Only Three 2024 Steam Releases Surpass $50 Million in Revenue
One of the primary indicators of a game's success is its sales figures, or in the case of free-to-play titles, the amount of money spent by players. According to recent analysis, only a handful of new releases in the first half of 2024 managed to entice gamers to open their wallets.
Analysts examined Steam's statistics and compiled an estimated list of the highest-grossing games for the first half of 2024. Only three new releases managed to break the $50 million mark: Helldivers 2, Palworld, and Dragon’s Dogma 2. Elden Ring also made it into the top rankings thanks to its "Shadow of the Erdtree" expansion. Meanwhile, Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to perform strongly a year after its initial release.

Analysts also observed that gamers often gravitate towards older titles over newer releases, with some games continuing to generate $5-10 million in revenue per year, even several years after their release.
