Desktop Processors Becoming Less Essential, Say Analysts Market analysis firm Jon Peddie Research ( JPR ) has released updated processor shipment figures for the second quarter of 2024. The market shows resilience despite some fluctuations, but the mobile segment continues to claim a larger share from traditional desktop models. During the first half of 2024, laptop CPUs accounted for 76% of shipments, compared to 72% during the same period last year. This growth was primarily driven by a surge in sales during the second quarter. While specific brand statistics weren't provided, analysts believe the new AI-equipped AMD Ryzen AI processors were a significant factor. Globally, the processor market has grown by 10.7% this year compared to the last. Server CPU shipments increased by 3.8% from the previous quarter.
