Xiaomi Rumored to be Developing Massive 7,500 mAh Smartphone Batteries
Xiaomi is reportedly developing several new smartphone batteries with significantly increased capacities, potentially reaching a massive 7,500 mAh.
Balancing Capacity and Charging Speed
While battery life remains a crucial factor for smartphones, tablets, and laptops, recent advancements have focused on fast charging technologies. Xiaomi's approach, however, seems to prioritize raw capacity over record-breaking charging speeds.
Leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo suggests that Xiaomi is working on six new battery models, with capacities ranging up to 7,500 mAh. Interestingly, the charging capacity appears to decrease slightly with larger battery sizes:
- 7,500 mAh: 100W charging
- 7,000 mAh: 120W charging
- 6,500 mAh: Unknown charging speed
- 6,000 mAh: Unknown charging speed
- 5,500 mAh: Unknown charging speed
- 5,000 mAh: Unknown charging speed
The 7,500 mAh battery is rumored to fully charge in just 63 minutes, a testament to the advancements in fast charging technology even at such high capacities.
Practicality Remains a Question
While the prospect of multi-day battery life is enticing, it remains to be seen how Xiaomi will integrate these larger batteries, especially those exceeding 6,000 mAh, into conventionally sized smartphones. Larger batteries inevitably mean increased weight and thickness, potentially impacting the phone's design and ergonomics.
Only time will tell if and when these larger batteries will make their way into Xiaomi devices. However, one thing is clear: Xiaomi is actively exploring ways to address consumer demand for longer-lasting smartphones.
