Samsung to Restrict App Updates for Users Without Samsung Accounts
Starting September 25th, 2024, Samsung smartphone and tablet users will face a new restriction. While previously users could enjoy their Galaxy devices without creating a Samsung account, the company seems to be changing its tune. A Samsung account will soon be mandatory for updating certain pre-installed applications.
Specifically, the change affects the Galaxy Store. Previously, users could browse and download apps without logging in. However, version 6.6.13.10 of the Galaxy Store introduces a notification warning users of the upcoming change. Beginning September 25th, users will need to sign in with a Samsung account to access the Galaxy Store's full functionality. Without an account, users will be unable to update existing apps or download new ones.
Furthermore, automatic updates for pre-installed apps will also cease to function after September 25th for users who haven't logged in.
It's important to note that this change primarily impacts pre-installed Samsung applications. Apps downloaded from the Google Play Store or other sources will remain unaffected.
