Samsung to Restrict App Updates for Users Without Samsung Accounts

Starting September 25th, 2024, Samsung smartphone and tablet users will face a new restriction. While previously users could enjoy their Galaxy devices without creating a Samsung account, the company seems to be changing its tune. A Samsung account will soon be mandatory for updating certain pre-installed applications.

Samsung to Require Accounts for Galaxy App Updates

Specifically, the change affects the Galaxy Store. Previously, users could browse and download apps without logging in. However, version 6.6.13.10 of the Galaxy Store introduces a notification warning users of the upcoming change. Beginning September 25th, users will need to sign in with a Samsung account to access the Galaxy Store's full functionality. Without an account, users will be unable to update existing apps or download new ones.

Furthermore, automatic updates for pre-installed apps will also cease to function after September 25th for users who haven't logged in.

It's important to note that this change primarily impacts pre-installed Samsung applications. Apps downloaded from the Google Play Store or other sources will remain unaffected.
