AMD has reached a record 28.7% desktop CPU market share in Q3 2024, according to Mercury Research. This marks the company's largest quarterly gain since 2016, a 5.7% increase from the previous quarter and a 9.6% year-over-year jump.

AMD Achieves Record 28.7% Desktop CPU Market Share

AMD's desktop revenue share also rose to 27.3%, a 7.7% increase compared to last year. This growth is attributed to strong sales of high-end processors, particularly the 3D V-Cache models and the newly launched Ryzen 9000 series.

Growth in Mobile and Server Segments

AMD also saw gains in the mobile CPU market, reaching a 22.3% market share, up from 20.3% in Q2 2024. Their mobile revenue share increased to 19.2%. The Ryzen AI 300-series APUs have significantly contributed to this success.

In the server market, AMD's share grew to 24.2%, a year-over-year increase. More impressively, their server revenue share climbed to 33.9%. Notably, AMD's data center revenue surpassed Intel's for the first time, reaching $3.549 billion compared to Intel's $3.3 billion.

Intel's Response

While Intel still holds the majority of the market (71.3% in desktops and 77.7% in mobile), they attributed their desktop share decline to inventory adjustments at a customer site, suggesting a potential recovery in Q4 2024.
