AMD is reportedly planning a refresh of its Hawk Point APUs, introducing the Ryzen 200 series for the entry-level laptop market. This follows the recent refresh of the Phoenix lineup with the Ryzen 8000 series.
Leaked information suggests minimal architectural changes, primarily focusing on improved AI performance. One rumored variant, the Ryzen 7 255H, is expected to compete directly with Intel's Core Ultra 7 255H. This naming similarity could create some confusion in the market.
The refresh is also likely to include a Ryzen 7 265H, presumably a refresh of the Ryzen 7 8845HS.
While not a significant generational leap, the Ryzen 200 series is expected to offer enhanced AI capabilities compared to the existing Hawk Point lineup. Core counts and integrated GPU configurations are likely to remain consistent with the current generation.
The Ryzen 200 series is anticipated to cater to the low-to-medium workload segment, particularly handheld devices and mini-PCs. AMD hopes to replicate the success of its Phoenix APUs in the handheld market with this new series.
The Ryzen 200 APUs are expected to launch later this year, around the same time as Intel's Core 200 "Raptor Lake Refresh" CPUs.
