Following the quiet display upgrade for the M4 MacBook Pro, prominent display analyst Ross Young reports that Apple's next Pro Display XDR is expected to feature the same quantum-dot technology.
While the release date remains unknown, Young claims that quantum-dot film offers a wider color gamut and improved motion performance compared to the KSF phosphor film used in the current Pro Display XDR and previous-generation MacBook Pros. This suggests the new display will have better color accuracy and a faster response time.
The current Pro Display XDR, priced at $4,999 (excluding the $999 Pro Stand), boasts a 6K resolution, 1,600 nits of brightness, and an LCD panel with LED backlighting. However, it's limited to a 60Hz refresh rate, which could see an upgrade in the next iteration.
While a price drop is unlikely, previous rumors hinted at the inclusion of an Apple Silicon chip in the updated Pro Display XDR, similar to the A13 Bionic found in the Studio Display. This would enable features like Center Stage, spatial audio, and Siri voice control.
