Xbox head Phil Spencer has clarified that Obsidian Entertainment's Avowed wasn't delayed to 2025 due to development issues. In an interview with GameFile, Spencer explained that the delay was a strategic move to avoid a crowded release window in late 2024.

Avowed Delay Not Due to Development Troubles, Confirms Phil Spencer

With major titles like the Diablo IV expansion, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and Indiana Jones and The Great Circle all releasing around the same time, Microsoft felt comfortable postponing Avowed. Spencer emphasized that Obsidian didn't *need* extra development time, but will make good use of it nonetheless.

Recent Avowed updates have showcased gameplay mechanics like a time-stopping radial wheel for strategic planning. A full gameplay demo also highlighted three different character archetypes and how Obsidian has leveraged the Pillars of Eternity world to create a unique RPG experience.

Avowed is now set to launch on PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S on February 18th, 2025.
