Control 2 aims for higher sales, with Remedy projecting 3-4 million units needed to recoup its €50 million budget (compared to €30 million for the first game). A key factor in this projection is the shift to the action RPG genre, expanding the potential audience compared to the original's action-adventure format. The first Control has sold 4.5 million units, with 19 million players accessing the game overall (including subscriptions).

Originally announced two years ago, Control 2 was initially planned as a collaboration with 505 Games. However, Remedy acquired the IP from 505 Games for €17 million and partnered with Annapurna Interactive for co-financing and live-action adaptations of both Control and Alan Wake.

Before Control 2, Remedy will release the cooperative multiplayer spin-off, FBC Firebreak, with a €30 million budget. Priced lower than a full-price title, Firebreak needs three million units sold to be considered successful.

Remedy is also remaking Max Payne 1 and 2 for Rockstar Games, with the project having entered full production three months ago.
