Alan Wake 2 has sold 1.8 million units to date, though this hasn't yet fully recouped development and marketing costs. Control 2 aims for higher sales, with Remedy projecting 3-4 million units needed to recoup its €50 million budget (compared to €30 million for the first game). A key factor in this projection is the shift to the action RPG genre, expanding the potential audience compared to the original's action-adventure format. The first Control has sold 4.5 million units, with 19 million players accessing the game overall (including subscriptions).
