The Outerhaven recently interviewed Delta Force Game Director Ricky Liao about the upcoming reboot. Here's what he had to say:
Q: What makes Delta Force unique within the genre?
Ricky Liao: Delta Force stands out for its diverse game modes. Warfare mode offers a modern take on large-scale combat, while Hazard Operations blends the franchise with extraction shooter elements. A campaign mode reboots the classic Black Hawk Down experience. We've also introduced Operators for added strategic depth, and our "Player First" philosophy ensures a premium experience without pay-to-win microtransactions.
Q: How many accessibility options will the game have?
Ricky Liao: We offer extensive movement and control customization and plan to expand these features based on community feedback.
Q: Will the single-player campaign be released alongside the multiplayer?
Ricky Liao: Multiplayer launches for PC on December 5th, 2024. The campaign (solo and co-op) arrives in Q1 2025.
Q: What made you feel that now was the time to bring Delta Force back?
Ricky Liao: The Delta Force IP holds a special place in gaming history, especially in China. We wanted to honor its legacy of immersion, thrill, and scale while modernizing the experience.
Q: What makes Delta Force a Delta Force game?
Ricky Liao: Immersion, thrill, and grandeur. The original game was groundbreaking with its large open terrains. We've maintained this in Warfare mode and expanded upon it in Operations.
Q: You recently stated that cheating is a cancer in the FPS genre. What plans do you have to tackle this?
Ricky Liao: We have robust client-side and server-side anti-cheat measures, including a dedicated task force working with the community.
Q: Are there any plans for a zombie-like mode?
Ricky Liao: Never say never! Our focus is on existing modes, but new mini-modes and a PvE Raid mode are coming soon.
Q: Unreal Engine 5 is known for stuttering issues on PC. What have you done to address this?
Ricky Liao: We prioritize performance. The multiplayer uses Unreal Engine 4 for optimized performance, while the campaign utilizes Unreal Engine 5 for enhanced visuals and immersion.
Q: Why the different engine versions?
Ricky Liao: UE4 excels in multiplayer performance and compatibility, while UE5 allows us to push graphical boundaries for the campaign.
Q: When Delta Force comes to consoles, will crossplay be available? Mouse and keyboard support?
Ricky Liao: We'll share console details later, but expect industry-standard crossplay. Mouse and keyboard support won't be available on consoles.
Delta Force enters early access on December 5th, 2024, for PC, with console releases (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S) planned for 2025.
