Samsung has reportedly begun mass production of its Exynos 2500 SoC, despite reports of abysmal yields. Contrary to earlier rumors, the chip won't be powering the Galaxy S25 series. Instead, it's destined for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, with a possible appearance in the Galaxy S25 Slim in mid-2025.
While a Galaxy S25 Plus sample with the Exynos 2500 exists, the S25 lineup is now expected to utilize the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will also stick with the Snapdragon chip. Samsung reportedly plans an initial production run of 3.9 million Galaxy Z Flip 7 units, including the Exynos 2400-powered Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE.
Although a Samsung spokesperson denied the mass production claims, this is typical for unreleased products. Performance-wise, the Exynos 2500 reportedly lags behind the Snapdragon 8 Elite and Dimensity 9400, especially in CPU performance. While the new Xclipse 950 GPU might offer some improvements, this is less critical for the Z Flip 7, which isn't primarily a gaming device.
The Exynos 2500's existence is crucial for Samsung Foundry's survival. Facing low yields, overworked staff, and a lack of third-party orders, the foundry is struggling. If the Exynos 2500 can match the competition, it will be a significant win for Samsung, paving the way for its SF2-based successor, codenamed Thetis.
