Google Gemini Now Integrates with Spotify for Music Playback and Search

Google Gemini can now play and search music on Spotify for English-speaking users with linked accounts and Spotify Premium.

Google has launched a new extension that enables its Gemini AI chatbot to search for and play music from Spotify. This feature is currently available to English-speaking users with a Spotify Premium subscription and an Android device.

How to Use the Gemini Spotify Integration

To use this feature, you need to:

  • Link your Spotify account to Gemini through the extension.
  • Have an active Spotify Premium subscription.
  • Use an Android device.
  • Enable Gemini Apps Activity in settings.

Note that Spotify control with Gemini is currently unavailable on iOS devices, the Gemini web app, or through Gemini integration in Google Messages.

Features and Limitations

Once connected, you can ask Gemini to play specific songs, albums, or playlists. You can also discover new music by asking for similar artists, songs based on lyrics, genres, or moods.

However, there are some limitations. Gemini cannot:

  • Create new playlists.
  • Access radio channels.

You can manage Spotify control within the Gemini extension settings, including turning the integration on or off and unlinking your account. If you use other music services with Gemini, like YouTube Music, you'll need to specify which service you want to use.
