Google has released a standalone Gemini AI app for iPhone users, providing a tailored experience with enhanced functionality and platform-specific features.
Previously, Gemini was accessible through the Google app on iOS, but the integration was limited. This dedicated app offers a more streamlined experience, including real-time interactions with Gemini Live and integration with iOS features like Dynamic Island.
The Gemini app allows users to input prompts via text or voice and supports Gemini Extensions for real-time conversations that can be viewed on the lock screen or Dynamic Island. This eliminates the need for users to constantly switch back to the main app.
The app is free to download, but Gemini Advanced features require a subscription to the Google One AI premium plan for $18.99/month. This premium subscription unlocks the 1.5 Pro model, offering advanced capabilities and a larger context window.
The Gemini AI app is currently available on the App Store in the US, UK, Australia, and other regions, following a soft launch in the Philippines. A full global release is expected soon.
