LG Display has showcased a new 12-inch stretchable LCD display prototype that can be stretched up to 50% without damage.

LG Display has unveiled its latest stretchable LCD display prototype. This 12-inch display can be stretched, twisted, and pulled up to 50% of its original size without breaking, offering exciting possibilities for future smartphones, tablets, and wearable devices.

Unveiled on November 8th at LG Science Park in Seoul, South Korea, the prototype utilizes 40μm micro-LEDs with a resolution of 100 pixels per inch (ppi). The RGB pixels enable the display to produce a full spectrum of colors.

LG Display began this project in 2020 in collaboration with 19 other organizations, following a request from South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE). The research team published a paper on the technology in 2023 and was granted a US patent the same year.

The stretchable display technology was showcased on clothing at the 2025 S/S Seoul Fashion Week, highlighting its potential for wearable applications.
