MSI's "X3D Gaming Mode" Boosts Ryzen 3D V-Cache Performance
MSI has introduced a new BIOS feature called "X3D Gaming Mode" that enhances gaming performance for AMD Ryzen CPUs with 3D V-Cache technology. Following similar features from Gigabyte and ASUS, MSI's implementation offers performance gains by disabling either the second CCD or SMT (Simultaneous Multithreading). This feature is particularly beneficial for dual-CCD processors like the Ryzen 9 7950X3D and 7900X3D, as well as the upcoming Ryzen 9 9950X3D. However, even single-CCD CPUs like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D can see improvements. Performance Gains Preliminary testing with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 showed a 20% performance boost in Far Cry 6 at 1080p with Ultra settings, increasing the average FPS from 219 to 263. Gains vary depending on the game, with a 10% increase observed in Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
