Nintendo is escalating its fight against piracy, targeting members of the SwitchPirates subreddit and other individuals allegedly involved in illicit activities.
According to a report on Game File, Nintendo's investigation into Switch modder James Williams (known as Archbox) has uncovered new targets. Court filings reveal Nintendo is seeking subpoenas for business records from various online platforms, including NameCheap, GoDaddy, Tucows, Cloudflare, GitHub, Discord, Google, and Reddit, to identify individuals who allegedly assisted Williams.
Nintendo specifically named the SwitchPirates subreddit, which Williams moderated and boasts over 200,000 members, as a focus of the investigation. The company suspects that Williams used multiple accounts on the subreddit and that other prominent members were involved in his activities. Nintendo intends to use the information obtained to pursue infringement claims.
This intensified anti-piracy campaign follows Nintendo's recent shutdown of popular Switch emulators Yuzu and Ryujinx, potentially to preemptively combat emulation of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
