Eight years after its troubled launch, No Man's Sky has finally achieved a "Very Positive" overall user review rating on Steam. This marks a significant milestone for Hello Games and represents one of gaming's most remarkable comebacks.
The game's initial release in 2016 was met with widespread disappointment due to unfulfilled promises and a lack of content. However, Hello Games persisted, releasing numerous free updates that added features, expanded gameplay, and addressed player concerns.
This dedication paid off. In 2021, the game's Steam rating improved to "Mostly Positive," and now it has reached "Very Positive," a testament to the developers' commitment and the game's evolution.
Game director Sean Murray celebrated the achievement on X (formerly Twitter):
Holy shit you guys - it happened 🥳 ALL REVIEWS: Very Positive 😍 Thank you Thank you Thank you❤️ You have no idea what this means to us 🙏
This turnaround is comparable to the revivals of Final Fantasy XIV and Cyberpunk 2077. While No Man's Sky continues to receive updates, fans are also eagerly anticipating Hello Games' next ambitious project, Light No Fire, a planet-sized multiplayer sandbox RPG.
