NVIDIA Continues Pursuit of Samsung HBM Memory for AI Chips

Despite setbacks, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang confirms ongoing efforts to certify and secure Samsung's HBM memory for their AI chips.

Despite recent setbacks, NVIDIA is still working to secure HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) supply from Samsung for its AI chips. This comes after Samsung previously disclosed its failure to secure NVIDIA as a customer, leading to financial concerns and speculation about the future of their partnership.

NVIDIA Continues Pursuit of Samsung HBM Memory for AI Chips

However, according to a Bloomberg report, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang confirmed during an interview at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology that the company is working "as fast as possible" with Samsung to certify their AI memory chips. NVIDIA is reportedly looking to source both 8-Hi and 12-Hi HBM3E memory from Samsung to meet the high demand for AI hardware.

For Samsung, securing orders from NVIDIA would be a major win in the competitive AI market, putting them on par with rivals like SK hynix and boosting investor confidence. It would also open up significant opportunities within NVIDIA's supply chain, potentially benefiting both companies given Samsung's semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.

The outcome of this extended qualification process remains to be seen. Whether Samsung ultimately earns NVIDIA's trust and becomes a key memory supplier for their AI chips is a crucial development to watch in the coming months.
