PlayStation 5 Handheld Reportedly in Development

Sony is rumored to be developing a PlayStation 5 handheld console to rival the Nintendo Switch, according to Bloomberg.

According to a Bloomberg report citing anonymous sources, Sony is in the early stages of developing a PlayStation 5 handheld console to compete with the Nintendo Switch. However, the plans are not finalized, and the device may not even be released.

PlayStation 5 Handheld Reportedly in Development

Sony has a history of handheld consoles, including the PlayStation Portable (PSP) and PlayStation Vita. While the PSP was relatively successful, the PS Vita struggled commercially.

More recently, Sony released the PlayStation Portal, a dedicated streaming device for cloud gaming. Interestingly, the Bloomberg article mentions that Sony initially considered making the Portal more akin to the Valve Steam Deck.

Earlier rumors hinted at a potential partnership with AMD for this new handheld, with possible compatibility with PS4 and PS5 games. However, Bloomberg only mentions PS5 compatibility, which seems more likely given the expected timeframe for release.
