Gaijin Entertainment, developers of Enlisted and War Thunder, shared their insights on the PS5 Pro's hardware and performance in a recent interview. While the performance jump is smaller than the PS4 to PS4 Pro leap, the new PSSR upscaling technology stands out.
Hardware and PSSR
"The real game changer is the addition of the Machine Learning Architecture that made PSSR possible." - Gergo Horvath, Gaijin Entertainment
Horvath praised the PS5 Pro's 45% rendering boost and highlighted the Machine Learning Architecture enabling PSSR (PlayStation Super Resolution). PSSR allows for lower resolution rendering without sacrificing visual fidelity, freeing up resources, especially beneficial for ray tracing.
Performance Comparison and Upscaling
The PS5 Pro's performance improvement over the PS5 is less significant than the PS4 Pro's jump over the PS4, mainly due to similar CPU performance. However, the GPU upgrade enables 4K@120FPS gaming in Enlisted using dynamic resolution scaling and PSSR upscaling. The PS5 version utilizes TAAU upscaling. War Thunder also targets 4K@120FPS on the PS5 Pro.
Gaijin found PSSR comparable to NVIDIA DLSS and Intel XeSS, with less blur, ghosting, and flicker than AMD FSR.
Graphics Settings and Pricing
The PS5 Pro version of Enlisted runs at approximately 75% of maxed-out PC settings. Horvath believes pricing fairness depends on the new experiences offered rather than solely on hardware specifications.
