Canalys's Q3 2024 smartphone chipset market share report reveals a mixed bag for vendors. MediaTek dominated shipments, Apple led in revenue, and Huawei's HiSilicon achieved remarkable growth.
MediaTek shipped an estimated 119 million chipsets, generating $26 billion in revenue. However, both figures are down from Q3 2023. Qualcomm shipped fewer units (76 million) but earned higher revenue ($38 billion), likely due to higher average selling prices.
Apple, while shipping only 54 million chipsets, achieved the highest revenue of any vendor, an 11% year-over-year increase. This is attributed to Apple's exclusive use of its chipsets in iPhones, allowing for higher profit margins.
Huawei's HiSilicon division demonstrated impressive growth, with shipments up 211% year-over-year. Although the actual shipment number was relatively small (8 million units, generating $7 billion in revenue), this growth highlights Huawei's resilience despite trade sanctions.
