Valve, known for its hardware innovations like the Valve Index and Steam Deck, may be returning to the controller market. According to sources cited by Brad Smith, Valve is preparing two new gamepads for mass production.
The first, codenamed "Ibex," is believed to be a successor to the Steam Controller (often referred to as Steam Controller 2). Details about this controller are scarce.
The second project, codenamed "Roy," is reportedly a universal controller designed for use with Valve's unannounced "Deckard" VR headset. It's said to feature a full set of buttons and bumpers, allowing it to be used for both VR and traditional games.
Valve has not yet commented on these rumors. The original Steam Controller, launched in 2015 alongside the Steam Machine, featured unique touchpads designed to replace a mouse. It was discontinued in 2019.
