Sam Lake, the creative mind behind games like Alan Wake and Control, will receive the prestigious Andrew Yoon Legend Award at the 14th Annual New York Game Awards.
The award, previously given to industry icons like Hideo Kojima, Tim Schafer, and Todd Howard, recognizes Lake's significant contributions to the gaming industry throughout his career at Remedy Entertainment, spanning from Max Payne (2001) to Alan Wake 2 (2023).
Harold Goldberg, President and Co-Founder of The New York Videogame Critics Circle, praised Lake's impact:
"What an honor it is to celebrate someone of Sam Lake's caliber...You know a Remedy game when you see it, largely due to Sam Lake's impact...We are thrilled to have him join the roster of esteemed game changers."
In an interview with IGN, Lake reflected on his career and the evolving nature of video games:
"It's been close to 30 years now. Video games are a form of expression and art...We are still a very young medium that keeps on finding new ways and keeps on evolving."
Remedy Entertainment is currently working on Alan Wake II DLC, which also teased Control 2. While a release date for Control 2 is yet to be confirmed, it's highly anticipated by fans.
The 14th Annual New York Game Awards will take place on January 21, 2025, at SVA Theatre and will be livestreamed on YouTube.
