Samsung is reportedly developing custom HBM4 memory solutions for Meta and Microsoft, potentially marking a significant breakthrough for its HBM business. According to South Korean media outlet MK, this development could revitalize Samsung's HBM efforts after reportedly failing to secure NVIDIA as a customer.
Samsung's HBM4 will reportedly utilize a combination of logic and semiconductor dies, built on the company's 4nm process and featuring its 10nm 6th-generation 1c DRAM. This technology is expected to be on par with offerings from competitors like SK hynix.
The custom HBM4 memory is rumored to be integrated into Microsoft's "Maia 100" AI chip and Meta's "Artemis" AI processor. As major tech companies increasingly adopt custom-built AI chips, Samsung's expertise in developing customized memory solutions could position it for significant growth in the HBM market, despite facing strong competition from SK hynix.
