Samsung is close to finalizing development of its groundbreaking 500Hz QHD QD-OLED panel, pushing the boundaries of display technology for enthusiast-grade gaming monitors. This marks the first time a 500Hz refresh rate will be available on a QHD (2560x1440) resolution display, combined with the vibrant image quality of Quantum Dot OLED technology.
Mass production is expected to begin in Q1 2025, with shipments to monitor manufacturers following soon after. This new panel aims to dethrone LG's recently launched 480Hz OLED display, currently the leading QHD 27-inch OLED gaming monitor on the market.
Like LG's offering, Samsung's panel will be 27 inches. The addition of the Quantum Dot layer promises enhanced visuals with higher contrast and improved HDR support.
While pricing and availability on gaming monitors remain unknown, achieving 500 FPS at QHD resolution is currently a challenge even for the most powerful gaming PCs. Reaching such high frame rates might be possible in some esports titles at 1080p resolution with top-tier hardware, but it's unlikely at QHD with high or ultra settings.
