While full reviews are still pending, early reports suggest that Qualcomm's new flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, is experiencing overheating issues. This confirms earlier rumors about the chip's thermal performance.
Realme sent its new Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered GT7 Pro to various tech reviewers for early previews. Unfortunately, the initial performance reports are concerning. Reviewers at Android Authority and Digital Trends encountered significant overheating during testing, triggering system warnings.
Multiple system services reportedly warned about excessive temperatures, preventing some benchmark tests from running. Digital Trends noted that the phone became warm during 30 minutes of Asphalt Legends United gameplay at high settings and maximum brightness, but the heat wasn't alarming. However, this isn't a particularly demanding game.
While this could be an issue specific to the realme GT7 Pro, the YouTuber LL Techview tested the Xiaomi 15 (Snapdragon 8 Elite) against the vivo X200 Pro mini (Dimensity 9400). The MediaTek-powered phone outperformed the Xiaomi 15 by 25% in AnTuTu.
It remains to be seen whether upcoming gaming phones like the Red Magic 10 Ultra and ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro will be able to manage the Snapdragon 8 Elite's thermal characteristics effectively.
