Sony's recent earnings report reveals a surprising trend: while game sales and PlayStation Network monthly active users are up, PS5 hardware sales have declined year-on-year.
Despite the improved availability of the PS5 Slim and the recent launch of the PS5 Pro, hardware sales are down. Sony reported selling 2.4 million PS5 units in Q1 FY24, a 27% year-on-year decrease. Q2 saw improvement, but sales still lagged 22% behind 2023 figures. Q3 is expected to be stronger with the addition of PS5 Pro sales.
In contrast, game sales have increased by 28% in the same period, and active PlayStation Network users have grown from 107 million to 116 million, an 8% increase. However, monthly active users are still below the 123 million recorded in Q3 FY2023.
